ANTIQUES NEWS: STRIKING A DEAL:
Following on from our theme 'WHY DON'T ANTIQUE SHOPS HAVE SALES?':
Of Course, with Antiques Dealing, if the Base Ticket Price WAS/IS ALSO competitive in the first place, and you are then able to negotiate an even better price, you are onto a 'WIN, WIN' SITUATION:
There are two scenarios:
The Dealer will use his/her negotiation skills and expertise, together with business contacts to search and secure the 'BEST PRODUCTS and deals' in the first place.
Then, those published ticket prices (DEALS) can further be negotiated:
WHY PAY MORE?

WHY DON'T ANTIQUE SHOPS HAVE SALES?- JANUARY SALES!!
www.davidjpym.com
WHY DON‘T ANTIQUE SHOPS HAVE SALES?, i.e. in comparison to High Street Retail?
STRIKING A DEAL:
Mainly this is due to the fact Antique prices are nearly always 'negotiable'. By the very nature of Antiques dealing, especially when the Dealer him/herself is available to talk to, the ticket price can always be challenged by :
make me an offer,
what price would you like to pay?
There will always be a level of mutual negotiation BUT contrary to some myths/ideas introduced by some TV programmes, offering half the ticket price is unlikely to succeed.
This is because unless the item is particularly low priced, it is NOT normally marked up by 50 or 100% and profit margins will get smaller, the greater the value of the item, I.e. the percentage ratio mark-up of the item. Therefore, there is no room for this kind of negotiation. The Dealer would have needed to secure the item in the first place and is unlikely to have been NOTHING. Therefore, he has an absolute base price from which he can operate:
REASONABLE OFFERS are more the norm: 10% or 20% perhaps
.
GOOD LUCK!! WHY NOT TRY YOUR NEGOTIATION SKILLS..
